Sterling, Virginia (December 2, 2011) – As a child, the Lions Club provided Michael Ryan with his first pair of glasses when his parents couldn’t afford them. Years later, a sign blowing across the road caused him to stop at a Citrus sale, just like today’s event, which got him involved in the Lions Club. Now, as the Second Vice District Governor of Lions of Virginia, he gives back to the community by helping with these events.

Two Guys and a Truck also lent a hand by donating the use of a 53′ moving trailer to the Sterling Lions Club to store boxes of Indian River Ruby Red Grapefruit, Florida Navel Oranges, and Orlando Tangelos for the annual Florida Citrus Sale. All proceeds go to those in need of glasses and hearing aids, but who can’t afford them.

The Florida citrus fruit sale will be from December 2-4, 9am-5pm in the parking lot of the Dulles Town Crossing Chick-fil-A at 45440 Dulles Crossing Plaza, located off Nokes Blvd. at Route 28 in Sterling, Virginia.

Lynne Downer, Operations & Administration Manager of Neediest Kids, emailed Two Guys and a Truck to say, “The team of guys you sent were very, very nice and I hope that it was an easy move for them. Not too much heavy lifting, mostly by the manual lifts.”

Neediest Kids builds a bridge to success by giving low-income students the basic essentials they need to get the education they deserve, including eyeglasses, coats, clothes, uniforms, school supplies, food, personal care items, and other essential goods and services. Neediest Kids partners with ten school districts in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C.

Donations from the event went to benefit of The Sunshine Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer that provides positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients.

Prizes, drawings, and awards were given in two classes of competition: Top 15 Class (1900 – 1979), Top 5 Class (1980 – Present).

Food was provided by Country Catering, and entertainment was provided by Valley Cruisers of Winchester.

Terry Williams, Carlos Ramirez, and their sons were happy when Two Guys and a Truck’s moving truck won one of the drawings.

The money from the drive will be used to send scouts to summer camp, and purchase much needed scouting gear, such as cooking equipment, canoes and tents.

The trailer will be available for the duration of the Florida citrus fruit sale from December 3-5, 9am-5pm in the parking lot of the Dulles Town Crossing Chick-fil-A at 45440 Dulles Crossing Plaza, located off Nokes Blvd. at Route 28 in Sterling, Virginia. All proceeds go to benefit the Lions Club of Sterling Charities, Inc. Sight & Hearing Fund.

Over forty (40) boxes of non-perishable food items, along with $100 in cash, were collected, transported, and donated to Gaithersburg HELP, a non-profit organization that assists needy families. “This is the largest quantity of food ever raised in a single-day event this year,” said Dave Willis of Gaithersburg HELP.
